大帝报仇
frederick the great, king of prussia (1740-86), was as willing as the next man to play pranks. while still a cadet, he and some young officers once took revenge on a regimental chaplain who had criticised them. they first smashed the windows of his bedroom and then threw into the room a hive full of angry bees. the chaplain and his pregnant wife were driven from their bed, across the courtyard and eventually to the side of a dunghill.
普鲁士国王（1740-86）腓特烈大帝和任何人一样喜欢恶作剧。他还是军校学生的时候，曾经和一些年轻军官被兵团的牧师批评。他们于是报复，先打破牧师寝室的窗子，然后掷进一巢狂蜂。那牧师和怀孕的妻子仓皇起床逃遁，被蜜蜂追跑过庭院，最后躲到粪堆旁。

【 解 说 】 as the next man / woman / person 是 成 语 ， 意 思 是 「 和 任 何 人 一样 」 ， 例 如 ： though he professes to have miraculous powers, he is as vulnerable to diseases as the next man （ 他 自 称 有 神 术 ， 却 和 普 通 人 一 样 容易 染 病 ） 。
revenge （ 复 仇 ） 可 作 名 词 或 动 词 。 留 意 作 动 词 的 revenge ， 其 受 词 （ object ） 是 指 须 报 的 仇 或 有 仇 要 报 的 人 ， 而 不 是 仇 家 。 仇 家 须 用 介 系 词 on 带 出 ，例 如 ： （ 1 ） he revenged the wrong done to him （ 他 报 了 仇 ） 。 （ 2 ） she decided to revenge her husband （ 她 决 定 替 丈 夫 报 仇 ） 。 （ 3 ） i will be revenged on him / i will revenge myself on him （ 我 会 向 他 报 仇 ） 。 「 我 会向 他 报 仇 」 切 勿 写 作 i will revenge him 或 i will revenge on him 。
