解放宣言(英中对照)

解放宣言
at noon on 1 january 1863, with the emancipation proclamation laid before him for signature, president lincoln twice took up his pen, and twice set it down. "i've been shaking hands since nine o'clock this morning, and my right arm is almost paralysed," he said. "if my hand trembles when i sign the proclamation, all who examine the document hereafter will say, 'he hesitated.'" then he collected his pen and affixed his signature with particular care.
一八六三年一月一日中午，林肯总统两次拿起钢笔，准备签署面前的《解放宣言》，但又两次放下笔来。他说：「我今天早上九点钟开始，不断和人握手，右手都麻痹了。假如签名时手颤抖，以后审视这份文件的人就会说：『他有点犹豫。』」林肯说罢，拿起笔，小心翼翼在文件上签了字。

【解说】美国总统林肯签署宣言之后，全国奴隶即享自由。emancipation一字源出于拉丁文emancipatus。据说，在古罗马，孩子到了某个年龄，父亲会象征式拿起他们的手（manus）然后放开（ex+capere），表示孩子从此可以独立，不受父亲管束，所以emancipation有「解放」的意思，动词是emancipate，例如：mikhail gorbachev will forever be remembered for his emancipation of （ 或 for emancipating ） russia and eastern europe （ 戈 尔 巴 乔 夫 解 放 俄 国 和 东 欧 的 功 业 ， 将 永 留 人 心 ） 。 留 意 新 中 国 的 人 民 解 放 军 叫 the chinese people's liberation army ， 不 用 emancipation 一 字 。 而 我 们 被 解 放 后 ， 也 和 黑 人 不 同 。 人 家 有 投 票 权 ， 我 们 要 求 投 票 则 是 叛 国 。
