§68 共相怨害喻
(68) bearing a grudge against one another
昔有一人,共他相嗔,愁忧不乐。有人问言:“汝今何故愁悴如是?”
once upon a time, there was an unhappy man who bore grudges against another man. he was asked: "why are you so unhappy?"
即答之言:“有人毁我,力不能报。不知何方可得报之?是以愁耳。”
he replied: "somebody speaks ill of me. i don't know how to do it. that's why i'm so upset."
有人语言:“唯有《毗陀罗咒》可以害彼。但有一患,未及害彼,返自害己。”
he was told, "only with the vetala incantation can you hurt him. however, there will be a drawback. that is to say, instead of your hurting him, you will suffer from your boom rang."
其人闻已,便大欢喜:“愿但教我。虽当自害,要望伤彼。”
upon hearing these words, he cheered up and said, "please show me the way. even though i'll hurt myself, i still would like to hurt him."
世间之人,亦复如是。为嗔恚故,欲求《毗陀罗咒》用恼于彼,竟未害他,先为嗔恚,反自恼害,堕于地狱、畜生、饿鬼。如彼愚人,等无差别。

so are the people at large. out of revenge, people seek the vatala incantation to hurt others without realizing that to feel anger and hatred is to get hurt themselves and fall into the three evil paths of hells, beasts and hungry ghosts. they are in no way different from the stupid man in this story.
注释:
  ①毘陀罗咒:毘陀罗,梵文vetala,意为起尸鬼。先觅求一个全身死人,用咒语让他站起来,将刀放在他手中,叫他去杀人。要先办好一只羊,一棵芭蕉树。若是杀不了那个人的话,便回过来杀这羊、这树。否则的话,就回过来杀作咒术的人。
源流:
  《经律异相》卷四十四引《譬喻经》:昔有一人于市卖毘耶鬼。欲买鬼者问索几许。鬼主言:「二百两金。」曰:「此鬼有何奇异,乃索尔所金耶?」曰:「此鬼甚巧,无物不为,计一日作,当百人。唯有一病,宜先防护之。」问:「为何等病?」曰:「此鬼欲使作时,昼夜使之,莫令停息。若无作者,便还害主。」主人顾金将归,令作田种,作田种竟,便使木作,木作竞,复使治地,作屋,舂磨,炊爨,初不宁息。数年之中,乃致大富。主人有事,当行作客,忘不处分。而鬼复欲作,无有次第,取主人儿内釜中,燃火煮之。比主人还,子已烂熟。伤切懊恼,知复何言。(《大正藏》第五十三册第二三一至二三二页)

  《佛说四十二章经》:佛言,恶人害贤者,犹仰天而唾,唾不污天,还污己身,逆风坌人,尘不污彼,还坌于身。(《大正藏》第十七册第七二二页)
白话:
曾有一人,与他人结了怨,愁忧不乐。有人问道:「你什么事儿这么愁苦憔悴?」他随即答道:「有人毁谤我,我无力还击。不知有什么方法可以报复他,就愁成这个样子了。」这人说道:「只有毘陀罗咒可以害他,但有一个过患,还来不及害他,却反而先害了自己。』他听罢,便大欢喜:「希望教会我。虽是要害及自身,只要能损害他,就行。」
世上的人也是这样,出于怨恨的缘故,想觅求毘陀罗咒来害别人,终竟还没有害成,先被这怨恨害了自己,堕于畜生饿鬼之涂中。就如那个害人反先害己的愚人,没有什么差别。
