一九五九年，七十二岁的蒙哥马利往洪都拉斯看儿子，并会晤危地马拉总统伊迪戈拉斯。伊迪戈拉斯警告说，假如英国不答应在加勒比海给危地马拉一个港口，他恐怕别无他法，惟有出兵进侵英属洪都拉斯。蒙哥马利回答说：「我是你，就不会这样做。你出兵，我们也一定会出兵，而我可能随军出征。我很少打败仗。」

mount an invasion 的 mount ， 可 解 作 「 筹 办 」 或 「 发 动 」 ， 例 如 to mount an exhibition （ 筹 办 展 览 ） 、 to mount a propaganda campaign （ 发 起宣 传 运 动 ） 、 to mount a surprise attack （ 发 动 突 袭 ） 。
