after the battle of austerlitz, which left napoleon the uncontested master of europe, napoleon's words to his troops were full of praise: "soldiers, i am pleased with you!" he provided two million golden francs to the higher officers, 200 francs to each soldier, and gave large pensions to the widows of the fallen. orphaned children were adopted by napoleon personally and were allowed to add "napoleon" to their names.
upon receiving news of the devastating defeat suffered by the coalition forces, british prime minister william pitt pointed to a large map of europe on the wall. "roll up that map," he ordered. "it will not be wanted these ten years." his prediction was perfect; napoleon was defeated at waterloo ten years later.

英国首相威廉.庇特听到联军大败的消息,指墙上一幅欧洲大地图,叫人「把地图卷起。以后十年,都不会要这幅地图了」。他的预言十分准确。十年之后,拿破仑在滑铁卢战败。
