英兵逃亡记(英中对照)

古德明《征服英语》之英语军事故事，古德明，香港英语教育作家，他开了一个《征服英语专栏》，在专栏中专门用英语写了世界近代史上的军事小故事，用英语讲述历史中那些惊心动魄的战争。
英 兵 逃 亡 记
in 1942, the crew of a british submarine arrived in the servigliano pow camp in italy. the coxswain of the craft was a huge man, who rejoiced in the name of "tiny". the hut they were put into was adjacent to the seaward perimeter wall, and it did not take them long to realise that it might be possible to tunnel out.
a tunnel was dug, starting underneath the stove in the hut, to go under the wall and come up to breakthrough in the outside world. the night came for the attempt, and the crew started to wriggle through the tunnel until it came to tiny's turn, when he got well and truly stuck. his mates took so long to free him that, by the time they were able to break out, it was daylight. needless to say, they were rounded up quickly.

一 九 四 二 年 ， 英 国 一 艘 潜水 艇 的 船 员 来 到 义 大 利 塞 尔 维 利 亚 诺 战 俘 营 ， 船 长 是 个 大 块 头 ， 却 有 个 滑 稽 名 字 ：小 不 点 。 囚 禁 他 们 的 小 木 屋 ， 邻 近 向 海 的 围 墙 。 他 们 不 久 就 想 到 ， 或 者 可 以 挖 地 道逃 走 。
他 们 在 木 屋 的 火 炉 下 开 始 挖 掘 地 道 ， 经 过 围 墙 之 下 ， 钻 出 地 面 ， 就 是 外 边 世 界 。 逃 走 的 那 一 晚 ， 各 船 员 逐 一 挤 过 地 道 ， 轮 到 小 不 点 ， 钻 进 地 道 后 ， 被 卡 在 那 ， 完 全 动 弹 不 得 。 伙 伴 要 助 他 脱 困 ， 久 久 不 能 成 功 ， 到 他 们 脱 身 的 时 候 ， 白 天 已 经 降 临 。 不 用 说 ， 他 们 一 下 子 就 被 捕 获 。
〔附 注 〕 rejoice in the name of 是 「 名 叫 」 的 意 思 ， 带 戏 谑 意 味 。 well and truly 是 俗 语 ， 指 「 完 全 」 ， 例 如 ： he was well and truly worn out （ 他 疲 倦极 了 ） 。
